Sam Heughan: news and tidbits on 2013

Everything can change from one day to the other. You never know what the next moment might bring. This applies to everybody. But for an actor, who is always waiting for the right role to take him far, chances are always there. Kind of.

And that is, maybe, what happened to Sam Heughan when he landed the role of a certain "chivalrous scottish warrior". So let's see what 2013 brought for him, shall we? :)

May 01st: Sam becomes a new client of United Voices and is gladly sharing his brand new voice reel on Twitter by RT (but you need to go here to listen):

May 02nd: A review about 'Emulsion', a movie filmed in 2011 with director Suki Singh - and that Sam stars along spanish actress Claudia Bassols - is out. You can read it here.

May 07th: Audition time! "A self-tape, a film audition, an advert audition, a theatre audition and coffee with the agent.. Tomorrow is a busy day." (I would have loved to know about the theatre one)

May 09th: Heughan has a small role in the new, lovely, Robbie Boyd music video.

May 27th: Yeah, it has nothing to do with his acting, but it seems like running is something he loves, so I'm sharing just the same ;) Sam runs a marathon in London and is pretty excited to shake @Mo_Farah's hand. Cute. *And* another audition at the end of the day.

June 05th: More auditions and more training for a Triathlon. (And I can't help but wonder if there has been an Outlander audition already...)

June 08th: Sam runs the awaited @BlenheimTri to support @beatbloodcancer. I think that's amazing :)

Pictures taken from Heughan's Twitter.

June 13th: Two more auditions, one of them for 'Heart of Lightness'.

June 20th: 'Emulsion' is now on Twitter.

June 27th: Doing a VoiceOver. (What for? Did we ever hear about it?)

July 02nd: 'Emulsion' debut is settled. It will be on August 13th, in London.

July 05th:
Sam starts filming 'The Heart of lightness' in the Arctic (Norway). He seemed pretty excited about it, days before leaving!

July 09th: After several days of rumors, they're finally put to rest as it is announced that Sam is the actor who will play Jamie Fraser in the new original series of STARZ, based on Diana Gabaldon's best selling novels. Which is the turning point (one of many, hopefully) I was refering to, at the beginning of this entry. So YAY for you, Heughan!

"From the very beginning, I knew the part of Jamie Fraser would be difficult to cast,” said Executive Producer Ronald D. Moore. “I had no one in mind for the part. I knew that someone would just come into the audition and be Jamie Fraser. And that's what Sam did."

Diana Gabaldon: “…having seen Sam Heughan not just act, but be Jamie, I feel immensely grateful to the production team for their painstaking attention to the soul of the story and characters."

July 12th: Thanks to the votes of his new legion of fans, Sam wins E-News 'Hottie of the week'. A couple of times in a row. So... E-News announces that he's out of the contest. Fans, in 'revenge', make E-News give a special mention to Sam's friend and actor, Tim Downie. Ha!

July 13th: And speaking of fans, Jan Paquete and Kim Lovelady coined the name “Heughligans” for Heughan's fans. Great name! Sam liked it too :)

July 26th: Last day of shooting for Sam in 'Heart of Lightness', as mentioned in the FB Page of the movie:

"Yesterday we filmed at Eggum, which is an old fishing village located under a huge mountain on the western edge of Lofoten. We shot Sam Heugham and Rosie Day's last scene on an old stone jetty and the light was gorgeous, pale and yellow and gentle. As we walked out over the jetty we noticed out of the corner of our eye a small army of black shadows, much like tiny ninjas. On closer inspection it turned out to be a family of minks who lived between the stones and were curious as to what we were doing in their hood. They didn't seem at all frightened and are the cutest things ever. They wanted to know who was in the film. Sam and Daisy delivered a blinder, as usual".

July 30th: The filming of 'Heart of Lightness' is officially over.

August 08th: Sam finds his nemesis in 'Outlander'. Tobias Menzies has been cast to portray both Frank Randall and Jonathan Black Randall. Can't.Wait.

August 18th: Sam meets his first Heughligan! At the Emulsion premiere. That was exciting ^^

August 20th: John Dahl (“Dexter,” “Breaking Bad,”) will be directing Sam and the rest of the cast for the first two episodes of 'Outlander'.

August 24th: Photo session with Faye Thomas. GAH!

September 6th: Yet another picture of the Faye Thomas session. You can see it here.

September 11th: Claire, Jamie's true love and soulmate, is here. Caitriona Balfe is the actress who will, along with Sam, bring this great (love) story to life. We all are dying to see them together!

September 23th: First time visiting the Outlander set. The pic wasn't posted until Nov. 16th, though.

October 12th: There's a special fan event after the NY Comic-Con and we get our first glimpse of a red haired Sam!! Thanks to a fan who attended and shared a video that was shown there. (Later, STARZ also shared the video, you can see it here)

October 25th: Internet explodes when STARZ shares, by surprise, the first official pic of Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser.

November 14th: We got a third pic (and last, for the moment) from the Faye Thomas session.

Novemeber 18th: STARZ announces that Heughan will be presenting an award at the Scottish BAFTAs. Ceremony can be seen online so, the BAFTAs chatroom is filled with Outlander fans waiting patiently (or not) for Sam to show. In a kilt!!

November 30th: Sam, by the grace of STARZ, gives us the first 'how to speak proper outlander' lesson. We learn how to pronounce 'sassenach'.

December 13th: The Outlander website is updated and a new pic of Jamie Fraser released.

December 25th: Happy Holidays! STARZ releases a video with the cast wishing us Merry Christmas. Sam included, of course.

December 27th: New 'outlander' lesson. How do you say 'Craigh Na Dun'?

And about 2014? Oh, I'm sure is gonna be a great year! For starters, there's a new Outlander fan event on January 11th, at L.A. Sam will be there. And on January 24th, a Q&A at the 'Emulsion' Scottish Premiere. Sam will be there too! So expect some more pics and videos coming your way. Here's to a great new year. Cheers!

Sam Heughan interpreta a Sebastian, agen…
